    PRESCRIPTION PATTERN ANALYSIS OF ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS IN GENERAL MEDICINE AND SURGERY DEPARTMENT AT A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL

    Objective: The objective of this research was to evaluate and analyze the prescription pattern of anti-inflammatory drugs given in the general medicine and surgery department at a tertiary care hospital.Methods: The entire study was planned to be carried out for a period of six months. Total 84 patients were included in this study and was carried out in a 300 bedded tertiary care hospital. The patients admitted to the general medicine and surgery department were included in this study, of which patients given with anti-inflammatory drugs were recorded and analyzed for prescribing practice and rational use.Results: The majority of the patients were admitted to general medicine ward rather than surgery ward, and the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) were highly prescribed to the age group of 41-60 y. And about 88.89 % of non-NSAID injection, 11.11% of NSAID injection were prescribed. The prescribed drugs were mostly given by generic names (81.52 %) and least by brand name (18.48 %).Conclusion: This results obtained in this research work will be helpful to increase awareness of the limitations and difficulties on the translation of these recommendations into clinical practice, but also to stimulate the creation of strategies or tools to increase the appropriate therapy.Keywords: Prescription pattern, NSAIDs, Tertiary care hospital, Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, Rational use of drug

    Scheduling Algorithm for Real-Time Embedded Control Systems using Arduino Board

    The time taken for the scheduling task in a control system to reduce the traffic within the system is one of significant field of research in modern era. There are different control systems that require time scheduling such as elevator control system, traffic control system and train control system. Currently, there are unique control logic strategies adopting scheduling algorithm that are implemented in real time systems like earliest deadline first and ant colony optimization. At the same time, the disadvantages possessed by them are the exponential dip in the performance ratio due to over loading. Despite of all the available resources there are many issues faced such as congestion in traffic networks due to non-adaptive scheduling algorithms, etc., which led to several misfortunes and danger for human life. Hence an improved algorithm that increases the efficiency of the system is required to validate the processing time and the deadlines. Our research is focused on validating a proposed idea of using Arduino microcontroller to implement the different scheduling tasks and validate the efficiency of the algorithm to optimize the results of the system. This take cares of assigning the critical paths which priorities the tasks and focuses on reducing the scheduling time. This rapidly increases the processing speed and efficiency of the algorithm. We plan to use the Arduino board which has an inbuilt error detection algorithm that helps in checking whether the time scheduling is done effectively. In the initial phase of the project we develop and fabricate the hardware design using CAD design software packages like Solid Works. This is later employed with suitable environmental interfaces like, sensors and microcontrollers that can work in an adaptable environment as per requirements to validate the scheduling algorithm. The scheduling algorithm can also be used for controlling the current flow and power storage which will contribute a lot in the power consumption aspect. Graphical data interpretation of various algorithms from the past literature is observed and few selected ones are to be implemented in the experimental set up that is built as an initial proof of concept. By analyzing the results from the simulations carried out using the Altera FPGA board with VHDL and Arduino it is clear that we obtain better results using the Arduino board. Finally, to have an extensive study on different intelligent control logics that are used in the above mentioned control systems, we use the prototyped miniature model of an elevator system and a train control system to validate the different disk scheduling approaches like First Come-First Serve (FCFS), Elevator (SCAN) and ant colonization to solve the discrete combinational optimization of the scheduling logic. Initial validation of the system focuses on the effectiveness of using the ant colonization strategies to enhances the efficiency of the scheduling algorithm and optimize it for real time application

    The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is responsible for timely clearance of snow on state-maintained highways in Indiana as part of its wintertime operations. For this and other maintenance purposes, the state’s subdistricts maintain 101 administrative units spread throughout the state. These units are staffed by personnel, including snow truck drivers and house snow removal trucks and other equipment. INDOT indicated a need to carry out value engineering analysis of the replacement timing of the truck fleet. To address these questions, this study carried out analysis to ascertain the appropriate truck replacement age, that is different across each of the state\u27s three weather-based regions to minimize the truck life cycle cost. INDOT also indicated a need for research guidance in possible revisions to the administrative unit locations and optimal routes to be taken by trucks in each unit in order to reduce deadhead miles. For purposes of optimizing the truck snow routes, the study developed two alternative algorithmic approaches. The first uses mathematical programming to select work packets for trucks while ensuring that snow is cleared at all snow routes and allowing the users to identify optimal route and unit location. The second approach uses network routing concepts, such as the rural postman problem, and allows the user to change the analysis inputs, such as the number of available drivers and so on. The first approach developed using opensolver (an open source tool with excel) and the second approach coded as an electronic tool, are submitted as part of this report. Both approaches can be used by INDOT’s administrative unit managers for decision support regarding the deployment of resources for snow clearing operations and to minimize the associated costs

    A Scalable Automated Diagnostic Feature Extraction System for EEGs

    Researchers using Electroencephalograms (“EEGs”) to diagnose clinical outcomes often run into computational complexity problems. In particular, extracting complex, sometimes nonlinear, features from a large number of time-series often require large amounts of processing time. In this paper we describe a distributed system that leverages modern cloud-based technologies and tools and demonstrate that it can effectively, and efficiently, undertake clinical research. Specifically we compare three types of clusters, showing their relative costs (in both time and money) to develop a distributed machine learning pipeline for predicting gestation time based on features extracted from these EEGs

    Coupling Between Magnetic and Transport Properties in Magnetic Layered Material Mn2-xZnxSb

    We synthesized single crystals for Mn2-xZnxSb and studied their magnetic and electronic transport properties. This material system displays rich magnetic phase tunable with temperature and Zn composition. In addition, two groups of distinct magnetic and electronic properties, separated by a critical Zn composition of x = 0.6, are discovered. The Zn-less samples are metallic and characterized by a resistivity jump at the magnetic ordering temperature, while the Zn-rich samples lose metallicity and show a metal-to-insulator transition-like feature tunable by magnetic field. Our findings establish Mn2-xZnxSb as a promising material platform that offers opportunities to study how the coupling of spin, charge, and lattice degrees of freedom governs interesting transport properties in 2D magnets, which is currently a topic of broad interest.Comment: 23 pages, 5 figures, Figures are at the end of the manuscrip
